Is this personal work or client work?
I predominantly shoot for myself. I do take client work on, but I have very limited sessions available. It makes me happy to know that I capture my life. Capturing the childhood of my children. They grow up so quick, and I want to make sure that I don’t miss time with them.
What about this session was most memorable?
I wanted to capture how fearless my little girl is of the water and how joyful she is at the playground. She does not mind getting wet at all. She is not scared to dive in and enjoy life. She wants everyone else to enjoy it with her.
Where there any hurdles?
Not really. When I photograph my children, I just observe and document what is happening. I guess the biggest hurdle was to keep her from running to far away.
Your best photographer/session advice?
I don’t follow a lot of rules. My biggest advise will be to let go of perfection. I’ve strived for perfection for a very long time. I wanted the perfectly edited shot. The perfectly framed shot. I’ve realised that it will be very hard to achieve with kids running around, doing their thing. I have let go. I now capture the moments. Not the perfect shot. And I love my work like this.
What gear was used to achieve these?
I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III and a Sigma 35mm 1.4 lens. I use this lens for 99 % of my work. I need to be at arms length of my kids, as they are still very young. It works well for me at this time
