Hi, I’m Joy from Joy of Life Photography. I can’t wait to be inspired by everyone’s amazing submissions over on the Dear Photographer Facebook page! I’ve always been what I’d call a creative, but it wasn’t until 2005 that I picked up a camera and immediately I was hooked. Still, photography was just a side hobby to my full time job teaching high school until we relocated from the US to Canada in 2010. In 2011 I completed a Master of Arts in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design, and ever since then Photography, along with being a mom, has been what I do.

Ten Fun Facts about Me
.) I have two three year olds, and one two year old, and no, there are no twins! We become foster parents here in Canada in 2012 and much to our surprise had adopted 3 children by 2014!
.) Once upon a time, in my camp counsellor days, I was a certified archery instructor.
.) My first camera was a little bright pink 110 film camera that I got for my birthday when I was maybe 11 or 12.
.) I have moved 12 times in my 15 years of marriage.
.) When I was little I had narrowed my career options down to either being an artist or working at McDonalds, McDonalds seemed like such a super-fun place that I was leaning in that direction 🙂
.) I hate hot beverages, like pretty much all of them, which makes me weird anywhere, but particularly weird in Canada where everyone seems to be drinking tea constantly.
.) Most of my editing takes place between 10PM and 2AM (I’m sure I’m not alone here!).
.) For health reasons I’ve recently pulled almost all processed sugar and white flour from my diet, so finding new recipes that I can eat and that still taste delicious has recently become a hobby of mine.
.) My ancestors on my Dad’s side of the family were actual pirates!
.) I’m a fairly reserved person in general but if you want to get me talking ask me about my faith, my kids, photography, or foster care and adoption issues. These are my passions!
