BE INSPIRED Session featuring Casey Gulley Photography

Is this personal work/client work?

This was a personal session, for my little mermaid. She loves the water & sand and so do I!

What about this session was most memorable?

Besides the fact that I tripped and slid down the sand dune with a death grip on my camera, WAY above my head…I would say that the most memorable part of this session was watching the entire image come together. As photographers, we often have visions of our goal image when we see a location or a spot. As soon as we got her in that outfit, sand in her hands, angled the way I wanted…I knew we had our shots.

Where there any hurdles?

Yes. My daughter is 1.5 years old…Enough said, right? She was more interested in the sand, sticks, grass and bugs. My camera wasn’t priority, but with a little help from my husband (okay, a lot) we got some with her actually looking in my direction. I specialize in children’s photography and it is always a struggle gaining their attention. Over the years, I’ve found some creative ways to do so, however!

Your best photographer/session advice?

First and foremost, when going into a session, remember that you will take a lot of duds. All it takes is a few golden shots to make any session a success. YOU are the photographer, your clients want to know that you are confident in your work. Don’t sike yourself out and think you can’t achieve your goals, if your session isn’t going as planned. Don’t give up, it takes a lot of practice and training, whether it be on your own or in an institute of some sort. The best way to achieve your goals is to step out of your comfort zone. You’ll never learn new things if you’re stuck in the same old box!

What gear was used to achieve these?

I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark iii. On this session, since it was my own, I wasn’t worried so much about depth of field and such, so I used my nifty fifty.

About the photographer:

My name is Casey Gulley. I am a lifestyle photographer in Knoxville, TN. I specialize in children’s photography and love every minute of it! I majored in Graphic Design and minored in Photography in college, yet somehow photography took the spotlight. I’ve been shooting for about 3 years professionally now, with no plans to retire! I am married and we have a daughter who will be 2 years old in July 2016. She’s my favorite subject. 🙂 I love the creativity freedom that photography gives me, I only hope to inspire others through my artwork, as others have inspired me.
