Is this personal work or client work ?
This is an impromptu personal session of my sweet 2 year old, Audrey. I named the session Red. It was her idea to pretend to be Little Red Riding Hood. When she suggested it, I was ALL for it and suggested that we go into the woods. It was so much fun!
What about this session was most memorable?
My heart was a fluttering mess when this session started. There was most definitely cuteness overload going on! Plus, my dog looks like a wolf! How perfect is that?!
Were there any hurdles?
I really would have liked to have been a bit more creative with the shoot, but I had my 1 year old with me in the woods, as well. I had one eye on my princess and another on my wild man. Plus we are dealing with toddlers. They don’t always want to pose the way you may want them to. Haha!
Your best photographer/session advice?
I am truly a novice with this art form, so I can only give advice from my limited experience. Shoot, shoot, shoot. I am participating in a personal 365 day project where I take, choose, edit, and post a picture everyday for one year. In just a few months, I have seen such growth in my abilities and style. It is quite exciting! Technically speaking, nailing white balance and focus are on the top of my list of priorities. Also, making sure you are working with a monitor that is truly calibrated is another must. I use a device designed to achieve accurate monitor calibration. It makes all the difference in the world! As far as session advice…be an observer. Observe the light, observe the environment, observe the clients and their candid interactions. Try to encourage real emotions while directing the subjects into the right light and environment. Capturing real moments is something I strive for. Add beautiful light to that, and I am one excited girl.
What gear was used to achieve these?
Camera: Nikon D7100
Lenses: Nikkor 35mm 1.8, Nikkor 70-200mm 2.8
Editing: Lightroom 5
About the photographer:
Sarah is a follower of Jesus, wife of an amazing husband and father, and mother of two precious littles. Audrey will be three in May, and Sawyer recently celebrated his first birthday in February. These loves keep her very busy. The family enjoys having fun outdoors and being active. Camping, riding motorcycles, swimming, and enjoying local parks and museums are just a few of their regular hobbies. Her passion for photography really erupted after she gave birth to Audrey. Capturing fleeting moments of her growing family became so important to her. Wanting to share that with others spurred her to start Behind the Stones Photography.
