BE INSPIRED Session featuring Allison Gipson Photography

Is this personal work or client work?
This is my personal work.

What about this session was most memorable?

We go to the beach a lot – mainly because the sun sets here and the light is gorgeous. Adam, my son, was having no part of it, at first. He was scared of all of the sand crabs. (To his defense, there were hundreds of them.) My husband eased his fears and gave him lots of hugs and cuddles. I was so happy to be able to capture that sweet moment of the two of them together. It wasn’t long and Adam was playing in the warm water and amazing light.

Where there any hurdles?

Initially, Adam wanted to leave – because of the crabs. Also – I used to have the worst time taking photos in this location because of the light. I was always unsure about how to achieve the correct settings but still showcase the amazing light in the photos. It has taken a lot of practice and going back each time to finally feel comfortable going there.

Your best photographer/session advice?

I usually go to certain locations and practice, test out before actually bringing clients there. That has helped me feel more comfortable with the area and finding spots where I know I want clients to go.

Also — my biggest thing — go with the flow. Adam was in a full on melt-down, tears streaming down his face — and we were able to capture the sweet moments that followed after.

What gear was used to achieve these?

Nikon D810 and Sigma 35mm Art
