Tell us about this session. What about this session was most memorable?
This was a full family session that I shot just this summer. The mom wanted a nature setting, and so I scouted a location in their neighborhood. Although I send a short questionnaire prior to meeting (so that I have a little head start,) I love actually being face to face with my families and watching their connections unfold. As most of you know, small children can be unpredictable and I never know if they will take to me immediately, or if might take some time. I kind of love it when they don’t because this is when I get the snuggliest photos with the parents. These two beautiful boys were a little shy at first, but I made sure to get down to their level (eye to eye) and talk to them and make them feel important too. I played with the toys they brought, and acted super silly. The most memorable part about this session was being able to witness their family. I truly feel as if I take a piece of each family home with me afterward and I love that.
Where there any hurdles?
As mentioned above, some might think a child who isn’t into posing and smiling would be a hurdle, but I use these times to let the parents snuggle them up, while I’m running around capturing the connections.
