Tell us a bit about the magic of summer + the connection to your lens?
I live in the land of forever summer (Hawaii) so capturing that kind of magic comes year round for me, and I really love that. The ocean and water in general plays a big part in my work and my inspiration to create, so I’m thankful to have access to it all year long.
What about this session makes it an Epic summer session?
The light was pretty amazing, but the fact that we all jumped in the ocean in such a cool location is what makes it epic for me. That mountain backdrop, dad playing in the water with his oldest, and the trampoline… it all just worked together really well.
What else is on your summer bucket list to photograph this summer?
This is a hard one since I’m always shooting awesome sessions by the ocean… I think shooting a stream/river session and a mountain session for a change of scenery would be awesome.
What gear was used to achieve these?
Canon 5D Mark 4, Aquatech water housing for the water shots, 35mm and 50mm lenses.
Any summer tips or photographer advice?
Don’t get scared to shoot at the beach! Our cameras are way more resilient than what we think they are! Capture those memories, either for your own family or your client’s family, because they’ll love being able to look back at that special time. Investing in a good and reliable water housing for in-water/underwater shots is also important, but try cheaper/more affordable options with your secondary body first to see if that’s a fit for you since there’s a whole new learning curve when shooting with a water housing.
ABOUT THE ARTIST :
I am a wife and a mother to two children that are very different from each other and challenge me everyday to become a better person and a better mother. I am an artist. I am a lover of Jesus, coffee, salt water, adventure and vibrant colors.
I found my way to Hawaii in 2005 when I came to work with Surfing the Nations for a year – it was the first time I ever left my home in Brazil to live abroad. I met my husband the day I arrived in O’ahu and never really made it back home! We built our little family by adding two beautiful kids to our lives, left the island for 3 years, then made our way back in 2015 because the North Shore of O’ahu is what home feels like for us and it’s where we want our kids to grow up.
The ocean has always been one of my biggest inspirations. As a teenager I would spend hours painting the perfect deserted beach and wave upon wave rolling in – always with vibrant and bold colors. Today, I love that I am able to tell stories through my photography and motion films while infusing them with my love of color, water and light.
