16/31 EPIC SUMMER SESSIONS // Feature by Susan Grimes

Is this session personal work or client work?.

This was a personal session. Just our family out on a little adventure

Tell us a bit about the magic of summer + the connection to your lens?.

Summer is my favorite time of the year because of it’s happy laid-back energy. Our summer focuses on simple family fun and I really enjoy capturing the light and energy that goes with it. Those little summer snapshots keep us going throughout the year.

What about this session makes it an Epic summer session?

This event was just magic for me. Everything fell into place with the colorful hot air balloons, happy excited kids, and a balloon launch right at golden hour on a beautiful spring day. To top it off, we found this great little spot away from the crowds right next to the launching balloons. It was great to be able to capture such a happy family experience.

What else is on your summer bucket list to photograph this summer?

Sprinklers, swimming, fishing, catching lightning bugs, eating melting popsicles, and family time are all on my list, but the beach is always at the top.

What gear was used to achieve these?

I shot with a Nikon D750 and the Sigma Art 35mm 1.4 lens. I use this combination 99% of the time.

Any summer tips or photographer advice?

My biggest advice is to keep moving and trying different perspectives. An unexpected viewpoint can really be inspiring. After that, just embrace the light, colors, and energy that comes from summer.
