Personal Work
Tell us a bit about the magic of summer + the connection to your lens?.
Summertime means a break from the routine and reminds us there is a whole world to see (whether in our backyard or across the ocean). The magic of summer is very evident on Anna Maria Island in Florida. The pace is slower, phones are shoved to the safe place in the beach bag, and dinner schedules revolve around sunset time. My camera is always available but is not always in use. I try to drink in the experience and document as it feels right.
What about this session makes it an Epic summer session?
Spending a week at one of the best beaches in the world allows you to see 7 unique sunsets, 7 midday blue skies, and countless colors of the salty water. The relaxed schedule, the freedom for the kids to play for hours on the beautiful beach with old and new friends, and staying up late for sunsets creates an epic summer vacation.
What else is on your summer bucket list to photograph this summer?
I will be attending my childhood summer camp with my children for a few nights and wonder how my experience attending 20+ years ago will influence what I am moved to shoot. I also look forward to documenting a few Florida day trip adventures, pool parties, and a trip to see my almost 100 grandmother.
What gear was used to achieve these?
Nikon D810 with a Nikkor 14-24mm lens.
Any summer tips or photographer advice?
Summer is for big dreams, adventures, and new experiences. So, try shooting the bigger picture with a wide angle. Take images of your kids trying new things. Borrow a lensbaby. Capture the color of summer, through the blue sky, the green grass or the crazy colors of the weather.
