Dear Past Self,
How I long to be you again. So joyful about your work, instead of being hung up on technicalities. That happiness in your heart, shining through those Aperture Priority JPEGS. Every mistake you make, every client who made you cry, every idea that you couldn’t figure out how to emulate- built a strong, confident photographer. You may feel broken down and torn apart but you become so, so solid.
Keep going.
Dear Current Self,
Don’t get comfortable. Your motivation is to never have to say “I used to be a photographer…”
Always remember that the room was never dark! (inside joke. Wait…can you have inside jokes with yourself?)
Keep Going.
Dear Future Self,
DONT YOU EVER FORGET! Don’t forget those newbie emotions. The giddiness. The hesitant contest submissions. The daydreams of how your studio would look. How prideful you were when you showed your dad your images. Keep those feelings- because those are the feelings that keep you coming back. Those are the feelings that make you pick up your camera. Don’t ever get complacent. Most of all, keep your work true to you.
Keep going.
