So much of who we are is embedded with the past. While our past fails to define us because we are creatures worthy and full of the possibility of change, The past is still a part of us. This months theme was full of stories about families and the women that forged our path. It was also full of artifacts with connections to another life. Whether we were emulating a family portrait or creating our own idea of what a heirloom is supposed to be. If there was one thing to take away from this theme, it would be that everyone has their own story.
The incredible Laura Wood served as inspiration for the Heirloom Vibes theme. Her work always has a certain edge full of nostalgia and beauty.
“I am a lover of all things old – pieces of clothing or ornaments handed down through generations, the romance of old movies and songs and especially the worn edged photographs of times gone by that give us that beautiful nostalgic ‘those were the days’ feeling. I think to create images filled with meaning it has become important to me to recognize that these ARE the days. Right here, right now. One day these photographs too will be heirlooms – treasured by us and those we love. The next time you take a photograph really tune in to what it’ll feel like to view that photograph in ten years time – how it’ll transport you and move you. Hold onto that feeling and tell your story of life at this moment.”

“Unfortunately, the clock is ticking, the hours are going by. The past increases, the future recedes. Possibilities decreasing, regrets mounting.”
