BE INSPIRED Session featuring |Jayme Lang

Tell us a bit about your approach to the work you do, your time in the business and a few personal facts about you.

I have been working with families and photographing weddings for almost 8 years. My approach is definitely very candid & documentary. I try not to give too much direction, especially with kids, and really find so much beauty in watching things unfold and happen naturally. I prefer to work with Natural light & love the challenge of a dark room with little light to work with.

I reside just outside of Vancouver BC, am a wife & a mother of two little girls (with a little boy on the way).

What makes you the most nervous during a session?

I think the unpredictability makes me most nervous… Which funny enough is what I also love most. With families who have small children you never know how its going to go – Kids will be kids & honestly they will do what they want and you really can’t force them to do otherwise. This can be frustrating and nerve racking if you allow it to be, I often have to remind my self to let go and just work with it.

What about this session was most memorable?

This location was perfect, the light was perfect, but more than that this family was so easy to work with. I think we all meet those people or have those clients that just feel so easy to work with & this family was definitely that for me. I walked away from that session feeling very fulfilled & also eager to edit!

Were there any hurdles?

The light for sure. Shooting at sunset is absolutely magic, but it also gives you a time crunch & doesn’t allow for slowing down. We basically had an hour to shoot & sometimes with kids a time constraint can be challenging.

Your best photographer/session advice?

Just let go, be open to whatever and don’t go into a session with too much of an agenda. If you have a set plan you will probably walk away feeling disappointed (especially with kids).

What is one goal for your business ?

For 2019 I hope I get to continue to be invited into families lives & document them. I hope to photograph more real life family session, more perfectly imperfect sessions & really show families that Family portraits don’t have to be stiff uniform images.

What gear was used to achieve these?

I shot these images with a Nikon D750 & my 35mm lens.

Any presets used or hand editing?

I  have an old Tribe archipelago preset that I work off & have tweaked quite a bit.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

As a Vancouver, BC-based wedding, portrait, and family photographer, it’s my job to capture authentic, intimate moments. I don’t tell people how to pose or smile. I create environments where people can simply be themselves and express the way they truly feel.  I document the beauty in the lives people are leading, so they can see it for themselves—and never forget it. When I think about what makes me right for the job of recognizing and documenting the beauty in peoples’ lives, this is what comes to mind: First, I am a wife and mother of two little girls. I feel the significance and sacredness of family and children deeply. I am a voracious lover of art. I’m inspired by modern design. I know exactly when the natural light will give a photograph painterly texture. I’m attuned to beauty. My personal values and communication style are grounded in authenticity and genuineness. I think honesty is infectious. My clients can be real with me and it shows. Your life is a work of art. Sometimes you just need to give yourself the space to see it. If you work with me, that’s what I’ll give you: the space to express the raw, true, and real beauty that fills your life.
