BE INSPIRED Session | featuring Margaret Koning Photography

B

Tell us a bit about your approach to the work you do, your time in the business and a few personal facts about you.

I am a family photographer first and foremost but also love getting other subjects in front of my camera! My time in business is about three years, give or take! When I’m not taking photos I am helping to be 1/2 of the parenting team in our home that boasts four little ones! I also love to hike and explore Colorado and all its outdoor goodness!

What makes you the most nervous during a session?

This session made me so nervous, to be completely honest! Asking a couple to get into the shower together with me there and a camera photographing them was far outside of my comfort zone! However I also get nervous about uneven terrain, because I am the biggest klutz there is and will probably end up falling at some point during a session no matter how flat the ground is!

What about this session was most memorable?

I loved how we all came into it knowing we were going to try some new things, but getting to work with the elements of the shower was most memorable for me. I loved how the steam and splashes on the door worked well with their silhouettes and the window reflection added another layer to the frame. I also loved how challenging it was to have these elements in the session.

Were there any hurdles?

I started with shower door closed, but it was very hard to nail focus on the subjects themselves through the glass. So I opened the shower door and that also added this really intimate look at the couple.

Your best photographer/session advice?

“Shoot through The Shot”, meaning once you get “The Shot” that you were looking for, keep shooting through that moment before you completely go to the next one. This way I’ve saved myself from having some extra shots in there that, in post, I’ve found I nailed focus more accurately or even just like the later frames better.

What is one goal for your business ?

To serve my community of photographers better in hosting more community gatherings. I love working with other photographers and am always inspired to hear their creative hearts and stories.

What gear was used to achieve these?

Canon 5 Mark IV Sigma 20mm

Any presets used or hand editing?

-Tricia Victoria Presets plus tweaks

-Personal B&W preset

-Summit 02 Preset from Tribe Archipelago
