A LOVE SO DEEP

It is said that a photograph is worth a thousand words, and this image was no exception. This kiss can be felt from a mile away. I love that no matter how invested we are in both of the protagonists in the story, the real captivating detail is that intrusive and strong hand placement. That specific touch is transformative. It elevates the image and sucks us in. This incredible monochrome is the fifth finalist for our First Annual Showcase Gallery.

JulieGodbolt-Headshot

I am a wife and a mother, two jobs I hold most dearly. I am also an educator, a job I love dearly, however on hold as I spend these early years with my two young kiddos. I am exploring my love of photography. Trying new things, exploring different styles and genres. I believe I am best summed up as documenting our daily and dreaming of creations. I believe that beauty can be found anywhere, from the small looks and little hands of my adoring three-year-old, the joy and freedom in my six-year-old, the connection of lovers, the fierceness of one’s soul, and the way the light and shadows play. I aim to capture it all.

EMBRACING ALL I NEED

With its beautiful layering, full of emotion and movement, Jodi’s work and especially this image transport us all to another world, full of sunkissed, and a feeling of grandness. It seems to me that Jodi’s unique ability to connect us to the closeness of her subject never fails. Her work is phenomenally filled with wanderlust and that touch of human connection and devotion. We cannot wait to see this image stand along the rest of our incredible gallery.

Hi, I am Jodi Lynn Buckles. I am a Mother and Wife first and foremost; I am also a Daughter, Teacher, and Photographer. My love affair with photography bloomed when I began documenting my growing family after the birth of our second son eight years ago. I wanted to capture his life unfolding…the laughter, the joy, the love, the fear, and everything in between. I had dabbled in film photography in college and was instantly mesmerized again. A few years later I realized photography was something I felt a calling towards, something that truly felt like home. A tremendous gift I felt impelled to share with the world.

LINE OF FIRE

Otherworldly and radiant are the first words felt as I laid eyes on Jyo’s incredible Line of fire image. It was chosen for its fragility, abstract qualities and the beautiful texture and tones. The light plays with the subject,  highlighting and enhancing it so effortlessly. I adore the lines and depth emanating from it the surreal light transforms this simple image into magic.  It reminded me so much of the wonder of this earth, the soft quality of the leaf broken in is a sign of time and the erosion of it. We cannot wait to have this image in our gallery and be able to gawk at it in person.

HOLD MY BODY . HOLD MY BREATH

Sit for a moment and think. The thought isn’t all quite clear, the thought isn’t all quite formed, it’s evolving. That thought turns into an emotion and that emotion turns into a shape. That’s what I see when I look at Teresa Vick’s work. Her images make me move, they make me wind my eyes through the entire image – left to right, up and down and I’m taken on a nostalgic ride through the image. I don’t understand the image fully, but I feel like that’s the point. It’s supposed to leave you feeling unfinished, still pondering, still wondering what the image represents. And that mastery of mystery is exactly what makes Teresa Vick’s art something worthy of being selected as a finalist for our #dpmagfaves Showcase Gallery.
